Dr. Hanin Farhana Kamaruzaman

Dr. Hanin Farhana is a medical and health economics professional who holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). She further advanced her academic credentials with a Master’s in Health Economics and Health Policy from the University of Birmingham and a PhD in Health Economics and Health Technology Assessment from the University of Glasgow. Her doctoral research focused on healthcare disinvestment, marking her as a specialist in optimising healthcare resources through rigorous academic inquiry.

In terms of expertise, Dr Hanin serves as the Head of the Health Economics and Value-Based Unit at the Malaysian Health Technology Assessment Section (MaHTAS) under the Ministry of Health Malaysia. She possesses extensive experience in Health Technology Assessment (HTA), economic evaluation, and decision-analytic modelling. Her technical skills include systematic reviews, health policy development, and health outcomes research. Notably, she has led significant national projects, such as establishing frameworks for national health benefit packages and serving on the Technical Working Group for the 13th Malaysia Plan (2026–2030).

Dr Hanin is also deeply involved in professional mentoring, peer review, and academic collaboration. She serves as a peer reviewer for several prestigious journals, including the International Journal of Technology Assessment in Health Care, BMC Health Services Research, and Value in Health. Her collaborative work extends to international researchers from the University of Oxford and King’s College London. Furthermore, her leadership role at MaHTAS involves guiding health policy and value-based healthcare initiatives, demonstrating her commitment to fostering professional growth within the Malaysian healthcare system.
