PALA 2022

‣ Call for Papers

The International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM), through the Child Bilingualism unit of AbdulHamid AbuSulayman Kulliyyah Of Islamic Revealed Knowledge And Human Sciences (AHAS KIRKHS) and the Department of English Language and Literature, AHAS KIRKHS, with the School of Humanities and Communication Arts, Western Sydney University, Australia, are hosting a three-day symposium in hybrid format to present and discuss issues which focus on research and development related to processability approaches to language acquisition, including second language acquisition, bilingualism and multilingualism, empirical issues in, and practical applications to language learning and teaching.

*The language of the symposium is English


We welcome submissions on any of the topics listed below.
Submissions need to relate to Processability Theory (PT).


  1. English as a second official language in Southeast Asia
  2. Bilingual/Multilingual acquisition (including both standard varieties and minority languages)
  3. Learning and teaching L2 in the pandemic world
  4. Processability Theory (PT) hierarchy in specific languages
  5. Pragmatics/syntax interface
  6. Transfer and developmental stages
  7. PT in language learning and teaching
  8. The shift to online learning and teaching L2 in the wake of the pandemics
  9. Heritage languages
  10. Comparison of PT and other SLA approaches
  11. Specific language impairment

Publication


Presenters at the PALA 2022 Symposium are invited to submit their papers for publication by John Benjamins Publishing Company in a special volume of the PALART series(Processability Approaches to Language Acquisition Research and Teaching). The envisaged volume will be based on themes developed at the symposium. All PALART volumes are peer-reviewed.
