About the Conference

Among the responsibilities of a university is to produce, reproduce, preserve, systematise, organise and transmit knowledge so that it can add to the breadth and depth of knowledge. A university community, ranging from academics to students, is a community of knowledge workers who learn, generate and disseminate knowledge which are linked to the needs of the society. The knowledge should lie on strong fundamentals, which are stated or enshrined in a university’s ethos; and should be applied for good use in the society. The latter necessitates a body of knowledge to be integrated with other bodies of knowledge and knowledge of the context.

For a faith-based university like the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), the missions demand her academics and students to understand specific approaches, orientation, and purposes when dealing with knowledge. The concept of Integrated Knowledge, Sustainable Development, Islamisation, Islamic-moral Spiritual Values, International Community, Intercultural Dialogue, and Deep sense of Social Responsibility are a set of scopes to be addressed when dealing with knowledge.

IIUM was established as a centre for producing new literature based on the holistic approach, substantiated by the effort to integrate knowledge with the aim to produce a new type of scholars who are capable of becoming agents of compressive change, improvement and development. The International Islamic University Malaysia was established with the aim to attend to the urgency of reforming higher education system, substantiated by a unique way of approaching/sourcing knowledge, dealing, and applying knowledge.

The academic work and research conducted by IIUM academics, students and researchers are varied but holistic in nature as they are embedded by integrated approach, input, and values, meriting a special scholarly medium for the scholars and students to share their work with others. This conference serves as a medium to share their academic work which are characterized by integrated approaches. It is also a platform for them to exchange notes on the approaches taken in dealing with integration of knowledge and relevantising it to the contemporary settings and contexts. It is expected that this conference will shed better light on the approaches, methodologies, and theories of the integration of knowledge.
